Process

City staff monitors the forecast and begins plowing and sanding at any time, 24 hours a day, when snow has accumulated to 5 centimetres or when excessive drifting has occurred. Streets are cleared based on a priority system to ensure the highest traffic roadways are addressed first. The first priority is the arterial roads in Beaumont along with the other major roadways.

Beaumont's snow and ice control entail seven major functions:

  1. Roadway Ice Control
  2. Roadway Snow Plowing to Road Curb Edge
  3. Roadway Snow Removal
  4. Trail and Sidewalk Snow Plowing
  5. Snow Clearing - Municipal Buildings Entrances
  6. Parking Lot Clearing
  7. Snow Storage Site(s)

These functions are completed by Public Works, and Parks operators throughout the winter maintenance process.
