Beaumont Innovation Park

The City of Beaumont is developing plans for an Innovation Park on the land south of Highway 625, between Highway 814 and Range Road 241. An Area Structure Plan (ASP) will guide how the land will be used and serviced by utilities, including the transportation network. The plan area lands are designated for a future local employment area in Our Complete Community: Municipal Development Plan (MDP).

A place to bring great ideas to life

Beaumont’s Innovation Park will be a place for bright minds to pursue bold ideas. The vision is to empower businesses to develop cutting-edge innovation and technology in areas such as:

  • Transportation and logistics
  • Safety
  • Data and technology
  • Education
  • Health and life sciences

With the growing international recognition of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region as Alberta’s innovation centre, the Innovation Park will be a magnet for investment, creating jobs that will drive economic growth for the community, the region, and the province.

Plans include the development of a training and innovation hub by the Alberta Motor Transport Association. This project will feature a best-in-class commercial transportation, law enforcement training, and technological innovation campus. It will:

  • Increase safety and competitiveness in the transportation industry
  • Streamline and professionalize police training across the province
  • Position Alberta as a destination to develop, test, and implement new technologies for municipalities and industry.

In April 2023, the Government of Alberta confirmed that AMTA’s project has cleared several hurdles and that further review can move forward.

The Beaumont Innovation Park’s location offers several advantages:

  • Located on Highway 625, a high-load corridor
  • Direct access to the QE2 Highway Alberta’s primary trade corridor
  • Minutes from the Edmonton International Airport
  • Within close reach of the CANAMEX Trade Corridor linking south to the United States and Mexico
  • Nearby rail connections for both CP and CN Rail.

Beaumont is a 30-minute drive to the region’s cultural and business centre in downtown Edmonton, the seat of Alberta’s government, and the University of Alberta – one of the country’s major academic and research institutions. Alberta Innovates and Alberta Machine Intelligence – a world-leading artificial intelligence and machine learning institute – are also within minutes of the city.

Public engagement

Current opportunities

Thank you to everyone who joined our project team for the open house on June 29 or completed the online survey. Your feedback will help guide the development of the Area Structure Plan. A final round of public engagement will be held Fall 2024 before a final version of the plan is presented to City Council for approval.

In March 2023, Beaumont began work on an Area Structure Plan for the site, a long-range planning document required to set out land uses, transportation systems, services, and sequencing of development. Development of the Area Structure Plan includes public engagement with neighbouring municipalities, adjacent landowners, Indigenous groups, and the public.

The project team hosted an open house, interviewed stakeholders, and collected feedback through an online survey in April and May of 2023 to inform the development of a project vision and concept plan for the ASP. We will be seeking more public input as the plan progresses.
