Housing Supply Challenge

In late 2021, the City of Beaumont was awarded $75,000 in incubation funding, through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC’s) Housing Supply Challenge, to create an affordable housing proposal and further the goals laid out in our Affordable Housing Strategy.

The City’s proposed initiative is to develop a toolkit to make it easier to identify and act on development opportunities for more diverse and affordable housing types in Beaumont. The toolkit will explore types of housing most in demand and the best locations for it in our community. Several partner organizations have agreed to help the City develop this proposal, including the Leduc Regional Housing Foundation and housing consultants SHS Consulting and Urban Matters CCC.

The City and its partners submitted our proposal in June 2022 for further consideration by CMHC. The proposal was selected as a finalist in round 3, meaning the project has been funded and we will love forward with engaging the public as part of the process to identify a possible affordable housing location in Beaumont.
