Beaumont’s boundaries will increase by 21 quarter sections effective Jan 1, 2017 as the community’s annexation proposal has been approved by the minister of Municipal Affairs.
“We are pleased to learn that our carefully-planned and researched annexation proposal was deemed to be in the best interests of Beaumont and the region and we are happy with the outcome,” said Beaumont Mayor Camille Bérubé.
The community, located 3.5 km south of Edmonton, has been working toward this decision for several years. For the residents of Beaumont, this announcement will ensure the community can diversify its tax base and continue to provide quality programs and services to residents.
“Our commitment to continue working with our neighbouring communities remains high,” Mayor Bérubé continued. “We look forward to a transition whereby residents’ interests are kept at the forefront.”
Annexation is necessary to help Beaumont strengthen and expand opportunities for business development, and have a balanced mixture of land uses. This announcement will ensure that Beaumont continues to deliver a high level of services to its residents and businesses.

About annexation
Annexation is the process for a municipality to expand its boundaries in order to allow for future growth opportunities. Properties within an annexation area are transferred from the jurisdiction of one municipality to another. Annexation does not change ownership rights and does not mean that the lands will necessarily be immediately developed.
This decision by the Minister of Municipal Affairs allows Beaumont to meet its future projected growth needs for the next 50 years and to comprehensively plan for the orderly development of lands within its jurisdiction.
