New Traffic Light on 50 Street Coming Mid-October

Safety upgrades are coming to 50 Street!

We've heard from many residents that the pedestrian crossing near the Dollarama on 50 Street is not safe. Drivers frequently fail to stop when the lights are flashing and people are crossing the street. At the recommendation of an independent traffic expert, the City is installing a pedestrian-activated red light at the crossing. Here's what you need to know about this new addition:

  • The light will be green and traffic can flow freely until a pedestrian activates the crossing.
  • There will be a minimum time between red lights to avoid long waits for drivers.
  • Expect minor disruptions on 50 Street as we install the new lights, including intermittent lane closures. The installation kicks off in mid-October and is set to wrap up before the end of October, weather permitting.

We appreciate your care and attention to the signage for the safety of pedestrians and workers during construction.
