Beaumont, AB – Eleanor Mohammed, MCIP, RPP, MTCP, HBA Env. Mgmt., EP, has been named to Avenue magazine’s list of Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40.


Eleanor currently serves as Director of Planning and Engineering with Beaumont, where she oversees short- and long-term planning and development for the community.


“It has been a wonderful and exciting surprise,” says Eleanor. “It’s an honour to be recognized alongside so many talented and inspiring individuals in the Edmonton Region.


Eleanor currently serves as President of the Canadian Institute of Planners and in the last year has represented this organization and Canadian professional planners at the United Nations Habitat III conference, in Quito, Ecuador; the Caribbean Urban Forum in Belize City, Belize; and just last week, the World Design Summit in Montreal.


“I’m so pleased that Eleanor has been named to Avenue’s list,” says Beaumont Mayor John Stewart. “Beaumont is growing at an incredible rate and over the next few years it will be important to have the best of the best on our staff. Beaumont is Canada’s 5th fastest growing community – we are attracting the best people to come and help us lead our growth and it’s so wonderful that Eleanor is being recognized for her abilities and contribution to our Town.”


With over thirteen years of public and private sector experience, Eleanor has worked for the Land Use Secretariat at the Government of Alberta; Stantec Consulting Ltd.; and Leduc County. She has led a variety of provincial and municipal projects including the preparation of statutory documents, policy and guideline development, stakeholder engagement, subdivision management, and environmental planning.


“I’m thrilled that Eleanor has received this honour,” says Mike Schwirtz, Chief Administrative Officer of Beaumont. “It fills me with pride to have top quality people working on the team. Eleanor is an inspiration to anyone who aspires to leadership roles. Hard work and dedication will take you a long way.”


Eleanor has served as the President of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute and is highly experienced in organizational governance, communications, and proactive strategy development. Eleanor holds a Master of Arts with Distinction in Town and Country Planning from the University of the West of England, Bristol, U.K.; and has an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Environmental Management.
