Beaumont City Council tonight approved an operating budget for 2023 that includes initiatives to protect the community’s health and safety, improve customer service, and protect city services at a time of rapid population growth and rising costs due to inflation.

“People continue choosing to call Beaumont their home because of our exceptional quality of life, making us the third-fastest growing city in Alberta. That’s a good problem to have, but combined with the high inflation of the past year, it puts pressure on city services and infrastructure,” said Mayor Bill Daneluik. “With diligence, Council has approved an operating budget for 2023 that addresses growth and rising costs, targets investments to keep the community healthy and safe, and keeps this year’s municipal property tax increase below inflation.”

Investments and initiatives planned for 2023 include:

  • Requesting two additional RCMP members to enhance policing in Beaumont.
  • Conducting a health care needs assessment to quantify service gaps and help press Beaumont’s case to the Alberta government.
  • Directing resources to enhance online and front-line customer services.
  • Increasing services at the Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library, including weekend and evening programming, and digital literary services.
  • Technology upgrades to support new financial and IT systems that reduce manual work and support operational efficiencies.

With the approved tax levy increase of 4.9 per cent, the owner of a typical home assessed at $450,000 will pay $153.80 a year – $12.82 per month – more for municipal property taxes in 2023.

Beaumont’s 2023 capital and utilities budgets were approved in December 2022 and include enhancements for recreation facilities and public spaces. Visit the City of Beaumont’s website for more 2023 budget details.
