City updatesPlanning & Development Posted on: January 3, 2025 As Beaumont continues to grow faster than the rest of the region, the City of Beaumont is introducing key updates to some Planning and Development services and fees effective January 1, 2025. These changes support responsible growth, the service delivery experience and better reflects the cost of providing these services. Here’s a snapshot of what is changing. Development fee updates New development application and permitting fees will increases to reflect the cost of these services, as outlined in the 2025 Fees and Charges schedule. Renovation permit fees, however, will stay the same—or decrease—to encourage reinvestment in the community. Fee categories will also be streamlined, making the application process simpler for everyone. Infrastructure damage pilot program Builders applying for new home permits will see a change as a two-year pilot program replaces the current damage deposit system. Instead of upfront deposits, builders will be billed directly for any damage to sidewalks, curbs, or municipal infrastructure caused during construction. This pilot program applies only to new applications. Existing applications will continue under the current system. Engineering application process update A new engineering drawing review process will roll out with easy-to-understand requirements. The process will also be more efficient, with the security calculations being submitted earlier in the application process. For more information contact: development@beaumont.ab.ca
