CouncilElections Posted on: September 7, 2023 A byelection for Beaumont City Council will now be held on Oct. 23 to fill two vacant positions after the resignation of Coun. Ashley Miller this week. Miller provided notice Sept. 5 that she was stepping down effective immediately. “It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of duty that I announce my resignation from public office. While it is not easy to step away from a role that has allowed me to serve the community I love, it is a decision born out of a profound commitment to something even greater: my family.” A by-election to fill the seat left by the resignation of René Tessier in June was initially scheduled for Oct. 16. The new date accommodates the legally required notice period to fill the seat left by Miller without holding a separate by-election. The nomination deadline and advance voting dates are also rescheduled. Nominations for candidates are due Sept. 25 and advance voting will be held Oct. 18 and 19 at the Centre Communautaire Beaumont Community Centre. Candidate and voter information is available on the City of Beaumont website. “Ashley has been a dedicated and valued member of City Council and we’re sad to see her leave,” said Mayor Bill Daneluik. “As Mayor and on behalf of City Council, I thank Ashley for her service to the community and I wish her and her family all the best.” Media contact:Mike BerezowskyDirector, Communications780-243-0458mike.berezowsky@beaumont.ab.ca
