Land Use Bylaw amendments

Council held a public hearing on proposed changes to the Land Use Bylaw intended to reduce the number of additional dwelling units permitted on residential lots and improve street parking. Following the hearing, Council requested more information about potential options. The proposed amendments and additional information will be brought back to Council in the fall and the public hearing will continue.

Council pay and benefits

Council approved a number of changes to compensation and related policy for the Mayor and Councillors, including:

  • aligning compensation to be competitive with consideration to the 60th percentile of comparable municipalities;
  • adjust compensation reviews to take place during the first or second quarter of the third year in each Council’s term with changes implemented in the fourth year;
  • conducting a small survey of municipalities every two years to compare the base salary of elected officials;
  • increasing the connectivity allowance from $100 to $125 per month;
  • introducing a wellness spending allowance of $500 a year;
  • maintain the pension plan program for full-time elected officials; and
  • the preparation of a bylaw for parental leave for members of Council.

Second quarter financial update

Administration presented details of the City’s second quarter finances for 2024. Council approved $160,000 to fund for redesign and construction to remove a median on 46 Avenue.

Urban reserve

Council approved a motion by Coun. Sam Munckhof-Swain for Administration to seek opportunities and identify land options for the development of an urban reserve within Beaumont to support business attraction.
