City updatesHealth & Safety Posted on: April 2, 2025 Finding health care services in and around Beaumont is now easier with a new interactive map designed to help residents locate providers within 15 kilometres of the city. The online tool is one of the items identified in Beaumont’s Health Service Action Plan to address gaps and improve access to health care. “Access to healthcare is a priority for our community, especially with our rapidly growing population,” said Mayor Bill Daneluik. “The health needs assessment conducted last year identified that Beaumont has a wealth of services in the immediate vicinity, but people weren’t aware of them. This directory puts information about available medical care right at their fingertips.” Services included in the interactive directory include: Primary care services Counselling and mental health support Family and community support services Continuing care services Pharmacies and more Addressing healthcare challenges and advocating for solutions Council commissioned a health needs assessment in 2023 in response to concerns raised by residents about a lack of accessible services in the community. Completed in March 2024 following extensive consultation with health care providers, residents, and Alberta Health Services, the assessment concluded that Beaumont is generally well served, but there are gaps in areas such as after-hours services, urgent care and family doctors with capacity for new patients. Following the recommendations of the assessment, a Health Service Action Plan was introduced in Spring 2024 with solutions to enhance health care access. The interactive map aims to help residents navigate the existing system. Other actions, including advocating to the Alberta government for needed services and implementing an incentive program to fill service gaps, are underway.
