Posted on: February 10, 2023 “I would like to thank the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta for listening to our concerns and re-adjusting its proposed boundaries to include Beaumont in the new riding of Leduc-Wetaskiwin. “The Commission’s initial proposal to place Beaumont in a new riding with Strathcona County would have fragmented the region and could have negatively affected our voice at the federal level. Beaumont and many of the organizations in the community have longstanding service relationships with our neighbours in Leduc County and the City of Leduc and our economic interests are more closely aligned. “With its report tabled in Parliament on Feb. 2, the Commission restored Beaumont in the federal riding where it belongs, to the benefit of our citizens and the region. “I would also extend my gratitude to our partners in Leduc County, City of Wetaskiwin, Black Gold School Division, Bibliothèque de Beaumont Library, Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, and the many others who also spoke up for our region and helped convince the Commission to take a second look at its proposed boundaries. “Reading the reasons for its decision, it’s clear that the Commission took our words to heart and presented a thoughtful report for consideration by Members of Parliament. As the Commissioners noted in their report, the process has been an example of participatory democracy in action. I appreciate their openness to feedback from the community as they worked to ensure Albertans have fair and representative electoral ridings.”
