Media releasesStrategic plan Posted on: October 17, 2022 Construction is beginning this month to bring high-speed internet access to all homes and businesses in Beaumont. The first phase of construction will bring a fibre optic cable into the community and connect it to a distribution hut being built on City property near the Beaumont Sport and Recreation Centre. In conjunction with this, work will begin to install fibre in neighbourhoods this fall and throughout the 2023 construction season. Homes in some parts of the city are expected to be able to sign up with Primus for internet service on the network this fall, subject to the impacts of weather and global supply chain issues on the construction schedule. Following a competitive Request for Proposal process last year, the city selected Alberta Broadband Networks (A-NET) – a consortium including Meridiam and Digital Infrastructure Group – as the preferred proponent to finance, construct, own, operate, and maintain the network. Consortium partner Victor Energy Ltd. is installing the main fibre line and constructing the distribution hut. Watch for door hangers with more information as construction comes to your neighbourhood. Residents can also sign up to receive updates from Primus at primus.ca/beaumont Once fully installed, the network is designed to support internet speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second.
