City of Beaumont Launches Land Use Bylaw Engagement

From now through June 10, residents and stakeholders from the City of Beaumont are invited to share their thoughts on refreshing the City of Beaumont’s Land Use Bylaw by participating in an online survey, taking party in a digital focus group or calling a phone-in line.

The City’s Land Use Bylaw regulates and controls the use and development of land and buildings in the community. The bylaw also contains regulations for setbacks of homes from property lines, landscaping, parking, building heights, garage sales, signage and more.

During this engagement period, the City seeks feedback on the following items:

1. how to incorporate different forms of housing into our community;
2. the ideal number of dwelling units per home;
3. how the City can adequately address the parking needs in residential neighbourhoods;
4. what it takes to build a complete neighbourhood that supports a variety of land uses; and
5. how to regulate and improve the sign application experience. 

“We welcome feedback from Beaumont residents, business owners, developers, builders and other stakeholders to help us refresh the Land Use Bylaw and make sure it’s working as intended to help build complete, connected communities,” says Teaka Broughm, Manager of Current Planning for the City of Beaumont.

During the development of the bylaw in 2018 and 2019, there was an extensive engagement process conducted to ensure that what was proposed reflected the needs of Beaumontians. Now that the bylaw has been in effect for three years, the City wants to hear residents’ experiences and ideas for improvements.

Feedback will be incorporated into recommendations and a best practice review that City staff will present to City Council later in 2022.
