Over the weekend, Beaumont RCMP nabbed three impaired drivers within the city. All three drivers were issued roadside sanctions and had their vehicles towed.

During these interactions, one driver fell out of their vehicle and failed the roadside demand, another driver refused to provide a sample of their breath, but admitted to consuming eight drinks, and the third driver thought they had waited long enough after drinking, before driving again.

Police officers can conduct Mandatory Alcohol Screenings and demand a breath sample from any driver who they have lawfully stopped, even if the police do not suspect alcohol impairment. Sanctions for impaired driving include fines, license suspensions, and vehicle seizures. As well, drivers are responsible for any costs associated with getting their license and vehicle back.

“Although it’s growing, Beaumont is still a small enough place that you can call a friend or family member for a ride or use a rideshare or taxi service if you’ve had too much to drink” said S/Sgt. Dave Marentette.

If you suspect an impaired driver, ensure your own safety, take note of crucial information about the suspect and their vehicle, and call 9-1-1.
