The holiday season is well underway and many people have already begun celebrating. Recently, Beaumont RCMP collaborated with Municipal Enforcement and Beaumont Citizens on Patrol, conducting multiple check stops. This will continue over the next month, with increased patrols to check drivers for impairment.

Being under the influence is no longer just about the consumption of alcohol. Drivers can face the same or increased sanctions if they are found to be driving while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, illicit drugs, over-the-counter medication, and even fatigue. Penalties can include fines, licence suspensions, and vehicle seizures.

Beaumont RCMP encourages residents to plan ahead and be prepared:

  • Don’t drink on an empty stomach and pace yourself – know your limits.
  • If you’re hosting a party, ask guests if they have a safe ride home and ensure there are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available.
  • Offer to be a designated driver for the evening.
  • Call a cab or utilize a rideshare service.
  • Call a friend or family member for a ride home.
  • Get a ride to the party to decrease the temptation to drive home.
  • If someone you know is trying to drive impaired, take their keys away.

If you suspect an impaired driver, ensure your safety, take note of crucial information about the suspect and their vehicle, and call 9-1-1.
