Planning Strategies

Alongside our statutory plans, the City of Beaumont has developed a variety of other plans and strategies to guide our city’s growth, operations and programming. Directional plans, which are the core of our planning framework, are described below. You can find more information on other plans that inform our work in more specific areas, including the Affordable Housing Strategy, the Age-Friendly Strategy and the Winter City Strategy.

Adopted plans

The City of Beaumont has developed a variety of directional plans that provide an overall framework for development and growth in our City.

The 2022-2026 Strategic Plan sets out Council’s priorities and direction for the current term of Council.

The Municipal Development Plan is a statutory plan that establishes policies for land use for future growth in the entire municipality. It is required by the province under the Municipal Government Act (MGA).

The City of Beaumont’s Transportation Master Plan was approved by resolution at the August 25, 2020 Council meeting. The Transportation Master Plan provides strategic planning for Beaumont’s transportation system, including safe, comfortable and efficient facilities for walking, cycling, transit, and vehicles.

The City of Beaumont’s Social Master Plan [pdf] was approved by resolution at the June 25, 2019 Council meeting. The Social Master Plan provides direction for social supports and services in Beaumont over the next 10 years.

The City of Beaumont’s Recreation, Parks and Facilities Master Plan [pdf] was approved by resolution at the January 14, 2020 Council meeting. The plan provides a vision and direction for recreation and culture facilities and service delivery in Beaumont over the next 10 years.

The Environmental Master Plan (EMP) is a strategic plan that will guide Beaumont’s progress towards our environmental goals over the next three decades. On August 10, 2021, City Council approved an updated EMP. Learn more about the plan and process here.

The 2023 Utilities & Storm Water Management Master Plan (U&SWMP) is a strategic plan that will guide Beaumont’s progress toward fulfilling the need for updating the water distribution and wastewater systems to support the responsible and planned expansion of the community in the short and long-term (5 and up to 25 years).
