Water Ban in Effect January 29, 2024

Water bans

-

Effective immediately, Beaumont has implemented a mandatory water ban to address a recent equipment failure at the E.L. Smith Water Treatment Plant, managed by EPCOR. This failure has impacted water distribution systems across our region, including neighbouring municipalities.

What You Need to Know:

– Residents are urged to conserve water by taking shorter showers, turning off taps when not in use, and delaying non-urgent water-related tasks like laundry and dishwashing.

– The water ban is in place until repairs are completed and the affected facility returns to normal operations. This is essential to ensure water availability for critical needs such as fire protection and essential domestic use.

– There is no impact to quality of the drinking water.

What is the City doing?

– The City has suspended all non-essential water use including water and sewer main flushing, fire-fighting training that uses water, fleet vehicle washing, and outdoor rink flooding.

-At this time, it is unknown when water service from E.L. Smith will be restored. Water restriction measures will be in place until the repair is completed. An update will be provided when there is a change in status.

**UPDATE**

Water Ban is Anticipated to Continue Until Mid-Day Sunday, February 4

First off, we want to extend a sincere thank you to all Beaumont residents for your incredible efforts in conserving water. In the past 24 hours, your collective actions have resulted in a remarkable reduction of approximately 800,000 liters compared to the previous day. That’s an impressive 18% decrease in water usage, equivalent to saving enough water to fill almost the BSRC swimming pool!

As we look ahead, EPCOR has provided an update on the water ban extension. Repair efforts are progressing, and the ban on non-essential water use will remain in place until repairs are completed, tentatively by Sunday, February 4. It’s vital that we continue these positive impacts on water use as we navigate through this extension. Residents can help by continuing to:

– Defer laundry or large uses of water such as filling hot tubs.
– Use a small amount of dishes and wash them as efficiently as possible.
– Take short showers rather than baths.
– Don’t run the water when brushing your teeth.
– Discontinue flooding backyard ice rinks.
– Thank you for your unwavering support and cooperation.
