The Leaders in Training (LIT) program is a unique opportunity for youth ages 14-17 (must have completed grade 8) to develop leadership skills, build confidence and gain hands-on experience in a supportive, work-like environment. Through structured training sessions and leader experience placements, participants will learn essential skills, including communication, planning, professionalism, problem-solving, safety and behaviour management.
Those who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience by assisting with summer camps and Summer in the Park, with mentorship from the Summer Programs staff. Graduates will also receive a certificate of completion, giving them a competitive edge for future employment and volunteer opportunities.
Absolutely! The main requirement is that you’re between the ages of 14 and 17 and have completed Grade 8.
The program has a fee of $40, which covers both training days, a shirt and an end-of-the-year pool party for successful graduates.
Yes, completing both training days is required to participate in leadership placements and receive a certificate of completion.
Yes, successful participants will have the option to be added to our contact list for other events, activities, and programs that take place throughout the year.
Yes, in subsequent years there will be higher-level training available.
